Care Partner Tool Kit
Becoming a care partner is one of the most important roles a person will take on behalf of a loved one. One may be thrust into the role quickly due to a sudden illness, accident or maybe with the realization that the loved one is not doing as well as we thought on their own. It will at times be rewarding and at others feel like a burden we do not feel we can handle. Whether it begins with transportation to a doctor’s office for a friend or starting an important conversation with one’s parents about their future, it is part of God’s calling to show mercy and compassion.
A care partner (caregiver) sacrifices time, energy, and love. In our Christian faith, Ruth is a notable biblical example of a care partner as she cares for the needs of Naomi while her own future was not secure. It is Jesus’ healing, compassion, mercy, and love that show us the way of being a care partner. Many of us think a care partner is a professional doctor, nurse, and other health care provider. The reality is that each of us are care partners without even giving it much thought.
