
Congregations throughout PC(USA) are honoring the older adults in their community with special activities this month. Many are using the worship service found in the 2025 Older Adult Ministry Resource Guide. See below for a selection of events and activities that celebrate elders and the contributions they make to their churches, retirement communities, and society. Opequon Presbyterian Church in Winchester, Virginia, held their Older Adult Sunday worship on May 4 with singing by the Young at Heart choir. Celebrations continue with the monthly Happy Days gathering of their older adult group and a special luncheon at the end of the month to announce the Older Adult of the Year. The Older Adult Sunday worship at First Presbyterian Church in San Luis Obispo, California, featured older adults sharing stories of when God called them. Watch the service on YouTube.

Older Adult Sunday (May 4) at Seven Mile Presbyterian Church in Ohio honored six older adults, calling them “mighty prayer warriors [who are] committed to their faith and the work of the church.”

Worship on May 4 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Georgia honored older adults. The church recently started monthly discussion and support sessions for older adults and caregivers to facilitate conversations about the challenges of an aging body, brain, and lifestyle. The Older Adult Ministry of Presbytery of the James in Virginia created a series of three presentations to help congregations celebrate older adults. Billed as a “self-paced virtual conference featuring local subject matter experts,” the series was introduced April 24. Find the resource on the presbytery’s website.

Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, celebrated older adults on Seasoned Saints Sunday, held April 27. Two older adults shared about people throughout their lives who have helped to deepen their faith and their connection to the church. Watch the service on YouTube.

Westminster Presbyterian Church in Tiburon, California, held an event April 27 to break the myths of growing older. The event featured local aging experts and included an information fair. Learn more about the event online.

A celebration of older adults is not limited to the first Sunday of May or even the month of May.
Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Denver, Colorado, held their first ever Older Adult Sunday in January. Worship featured a printed collection of Montview memories shared by members who are 75 and older. The document recognized the remarkable history of the church and the important contributions that older adults made to the church community. Watch the service on YouTube.
